Five and six year old pupils in Year 1 at Lady Bay Primary School in West Bridgford,
Nottingham, created a beautiful mosaic of the logo for Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s Saving
Lives Helipad Appeal. The mosaic was displayed in the Community Artspace in John Lewis
in the Victoria Centre, where it attracted praise and positive comments from many customers
visiting the store.
Naomi Walters, Community Fundraiser at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, comments: ‘We’re
very grateful to the Year 1 children at Lady Bay Primary School and to John Lewis for their
fantastic support. The mosaic looked amazing and I’m sure it will have helped to raise
awareness of our Saving Lives Helipad Appeal, which is raising £3 million to build an onsite
helipad at Queen’s Medical Centre. This will get the most seriously injured patients to the
East Midlands Major Trauma Centre more quickly – helping save time, to save lives.’

The mosaic was created as part of the John Lewis Community Matters scheme, which
supports charities and community groups local to each John Lewis store. Lady Bay Primary
School made a generous donation of £907.44 to the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal, which the
children raised through a non-uniform day and from collections made after their Christmas
show performances in December.
‘John Lewis is always keen to support local charities and community projects,’ says Louise
Law, Community Liaison Coordinator at John Lewis. ‘We were delighted to support the
Saving Lives Helipad Appeal by displaying the children’s mosaic in our Community Artspace
in the Place to Eat – the appeal is a truly worthwhile cause that will make a real difference to
the lives of patients being taken by air ambulance to the QMC from across the East
Midlands.
