BBC’s Maurice Flynn will formally open this year’s Lady Bay Open Gardens at 22 Pierrepont Road at 2pm this Saturday (8th July).

The Open Gardens event, now in its 26th year will run from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th of July in 25 gardens throughout Lady Bay in West Bridgford.  Maurice, who presents the news on BBC East Midlands TV, has a big love for gardening and trained in horticulture at Pershore College in Worcestershire.

As well as the many beautiful and varied gardens to view there will be lots of entertainment, activities for children, cake and plant stalls.  All money raised over the weekend will be donated to Lady Bay Community Fund and various charities nominated by garden owners.  The brand new Scout Hall will also be formally opened at 1.45pm on Sunday 9 July with Scouts and civic dignitaries in attendance.

Visitors can buy an Open Gardens entry programme for £3 from any participating garden, look out for the yellow balloons and various signs throughout Lady Bay.  An Open Gardens map will be situated outside the Post Office on Trent Boulevard.

Keith Wright, Chairman of the volunteer Open Gardens committee said “this year promises to be another fabulous weekend not to missed! We have 25 gardens taking part and lots of entertainment and stalls for all the family”.

Confirmed entertainment over the weekend includes: The Trent Navigation Shanty Crew, The Community Choir, The Strawberry Jammers, The Black Peacock Belly Dancers, Kids Zumba demonstration, Tripliquette (vocalist trio) and live singers, City Farm animal petting at The Lady Bay Pub, Cream Teas at  Holme Lodge Leonard Cheshire disability, cakes and coffee at the new Scout Hall as well as plenty of plant stalls, children’s activities and fundraising.
