West Bridgford Football Club have announced an exciting development in local football that will see the men’s first team of West Bridgford Colts FC merge with AFC Bridgford, creating three teams in the senior section of WBFC.
As well as offering the club’s junior players a smooth transition into adult football, this merger will give AFC Bridgford a home ground they can truly call home, with facilities to match their ambition to progress to higher levels.
The WBFC first team will be playing at Step 6 in the East Midlands Counties League, while the second and third teams, playing under the name West Bridgford AFC, will hopefully compete in the Nottinghamshire Senior League, subject to AGM approval.
Ryan Doherty, WBFC first team Manager, commented: “To run a truly successful football team, you need to bring the talent through the youth section, giving young players a clear path to a possible place on the first team. And this new merger will provide just that. It’s all about giving players the opportunity to achieve their potential as the club progresses to bigger and better things.”
AFC Manager Barry Mathews, said: “We’re really excited about joining one of the East Midland’s premier clubs and continuing the amazing journey that AFC Bridgford started 16 years ago. The opportunity to be a part of such a professional set up at West Bridgford FC is a great step forward. We hope to continue the winning traditions of both clubs in the coming seasons, at all levels.”
The three teams will work closely together to ensure the Club is able to put out three competitive sides each week. Training will take place weekly at the Regatta Way ground in Gamston, where the facilities are some of the best in Nottinghamshire.
