History Made for Bridgford in the FA Vase

West Bridgford FC vs Selston FC
FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round
Final Score West Bridgford FC 5 Selston FC 0
West Bridgford move into the First Round Proper of the FA Vase for the first time in their history following a comprehensive win against Selston at Regatta Way yesterday.
Selston won the East Midlands Counties League last season and as such now play their league football at the step above Bridgford.
Bridgford began the game brightly and immediately looked to get their passing game going. They were to be rewarded for their promising start twice within the first 15 minutes. Firstly on 10 minutes when Hopkinson neatly turned his marker and slotted home from just inside the area, and then again 5 minutes later, when a failed offside trap from the visiting defence found him in an almost identical position and he again made no mistake calmly placing the ball home.
The remainder of the first half was fairly even with both sides looking to pass their way to openings. A Layton shot for Selston was well saved by Fogg in the Bridgford goal and on the stroke of half time a left foot shot from Ryan Whitehurst hit the inside of the post but stayed out.
Half Time West Bridgford 2 Selston 0
The start of the second half saw Selston on the front foot looking to get back into the game. Their best chance created saw their forward go through on the right side of the area. Fogg was out smartly to save with his feet and preserve the home side’s lead.
Bridgford continued to play the ball on the floor, to feet and this allowed them to establish control of the game again. In an excellent team performance, Bridgford started to create the chances that their play deserved as the half wore on.
A great run from Oldham straight through the heart of the visitors defence brought strong claims for a penalty and crosses from Ryan Wheatley and Josh Rae both narrowly failed to connect with Bridgford players in the box.
On 75 minutes the tie was settled and it was that man Hopkinson again. Following on from his hat trick last week against Sherwood, he took his tally to 6 goals in the last two games when he finished smartly from a rebound to his own shot and fired home through a crowded penalty area.
The visitors notably slowed after this goal and Bridgford capitalised to extend the margin of victory. On 83 minutes, good work down the right from Batterham released Williamson, who turned inside his defender and crossed for Ryan Whitehurst to back heel the ball past the Selston keeper.
On 88 minutes Jordan Wheatley wrapped up the scoring when he floated the ball into the far top corner from the right hand side of the penalty area.
