A Facebook group has been launched – you can apply to join here West Bridgford Community Helpers

“This is a group intended to help those of us who would like to support more vulnerable and elderly members of our community during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Lots of older people are understandably worried. They may also find themselves more isolated than usual as we try to keep them safe from infection.

Current plan is to set up a buddy system whereby a vulnerable and/or elderly person will be connected with someone in their community. The idea is that they can make contact via phone. We could help with arranging online shopping, dropping off supplies if they can’t get out or just a friendly chat.

Steps to achieve this:

1. Recruit volunteers via this group

2. Leaflet drop to access vulnerable residents who – please let us know which roads you can cover. We will provide a leaflet to print with email address and phone number.

3. When we have volunteers and those who would like to be connected, we’ll create “buddies” – ideally people who live closest to each other. In-person visits which may put people at risk are not advisable.

Please comment if you would like to be involved. The road you live on and roads you could drop leaflets to if able. Email WBcommunity@yahoo.com if you’d prefer not to post here.

Ideas/suggestions welcome as I know many are keen to help where we can.”
